Before a pipeline carries product, its construction quality, cleanliness and readiness for operation must be demonstrated. A properly-controlled pre-commissioning programme moves the system from mechanical completion toward safe operational handover.
Flooding, Flushing and Gauging
The line is filled in a controlled manner, flushed to remove construction debris and gauged to confirm the internal bore. Water quality, filling rate, venting and pig movement are monitored against the approved procedure.
Hydrostatic Pressure Testing
Hydrotesting verifies pipeline strength and leak tightness. The system is stabilised, pressurised and monitored with calibrated instruments. Test boundaries, temperature effects, safety zones and acceptance criteria must be clearly defined before pressure is applied.
Dewatering and Drying
After testing, water is removed using a planned pig train and suitable receiving arrangements. Drying continues until the specified acceptance condition is achieved, helping protect the line and prepare it for product introduction or preservation.
Documented Handover
